Peer Review

Ideas:

In my mind the ideas section of peer reviews is when you try to recommend to the author that they should change their thesis somehow in order to set themselves up for the body/evidence paragraphs.  This could be anything from expanded on their thesis to completely rewriting it to fit their paper better.  I found myself telling one of the authors of the papers that I peer reviewed to add a thesis because their introduction paragraph ended without a thesis statement.  I told this author, “In need of a thesis to set up your body paragraphs.”  Without a thesis, this paper wouldn’t be anywhere near as organized.

Evidence:

In this section, you writers needed to be sure that they were providing evidence along with their claims.  I found myself being told by my peers that I needed to provide more evidence along with my claims.  I guess that since I had already read both of the articles so many times while writing all of these prompts that I forgot that my readers may not have.  Its important to remember to provide evidence in order for your piece to be credible, otherwise the reader won’t be able to believe any of what you are saying.  I have already designed a way for me to fix this problem in which I will describe in my next blog.

Organization:

The organization of an essay is important because its what makes an essay easy to read.  Organization is a massive tool that can be used when writing.  I found myself writing an introduction paragraph where I briefly described both of the passages.  I then used a paragraph to go into depth on both of the articles.  After that I compared and contrasted the authors ideas and introduced my opinion.  I found an example of this in one of my peers essays when I told him that he should take one of his two page long paragraphs and make them into multiple.

Conclusion:

It was weird to have to prioritize global revision over local revisions.  One of my peers’ essay had way too many grammatical errors and rather than fix those I had to worry about the essay as a whole.  The ideas and organization took priority rather than the minor grammatical errors which does make sense.  It is way more crucial to the success of the essay for the paper to be well organized and clear.
