Revision Strategy

English 110 has been my first experience of trying out new revision strategies.  I like the way trying out new ways can influence the way you think of your writing.  For example, I really appreciated having my peers reviewing my paper in order to help me think of ways to improve my essay.  The most common thing that I was told is that my thesis is usually too broad and doesn’t stay on topic.   On this last essay, I was able to identify this issue and address it from the beginning.  This saved me a lot of time on my second draft because I didn’t have to completely restructure my essay the way I did on the first two essays.  I also like the strategy where we read a passage twice, once with a highlighter, and once to understand the language completely.  This strategy helped me better understand the structure of sentences and in the future will allow me to understand what words in a sentence are doing to the meaning of the sentence.  I don’t know if this counts as a revision strategy, but I also feel that Professor Emerson reading through our essays and leaving comments on them helps immensely.

  1. Ethan, I’m so happy that you found my comments helpful, and I am so happy that you learned from your other sources (your peers, the texts, and the process), as well. Good news all around! 3/3
